The Vatican State, smallest country in the world, houses some of the most important and beautiful art and historical sites in the world! Our Great Tour will lead you through wonders of the Ancient Romans and Greeks as well as 16th Century Papal Apartments (Raphael Rooms) painted by Raphael in the Vatican Museums; the Renaissance highlight of Michelangelo's amazing frescoes in the Sistine Chapel , home of the Papal Elections ; and finally the breathtaking grandeur of Saint Peter's Basillica , the longest church in the world. Carrying the gravity of Saint Peter, the first Pope's tomb under the high altar, it also houses Michelangelo's Pietà and Bernini's The Baldachin , the largest bronze monument in the world, but also several papal monuments and tombs as well.

Schedule
2008 Schedule
Great Vatican Tour start time:
Monday-Saturday 1:30pm

Long lines?
Because of this schedule, weekday tours should expect to wait in line 0-20 minutes to enter the museum.

It is true that the Vatican Museums has legendarily long lines nearly every morning?
Our experienced has shown however that we can reliably save ourselves a couple of hours of line-waiting every day by scheduling our tours in the afternoon.

Shorter museums hours make this impossible on the weekend though. Satuday tours should expect a wait of 60-90 minutes (for this reason, Saturday tours will leave very promptly.)

Maximum group size: 10

Duration 3 hours

Starting point:A small cafe 1 block from the museum entrance. Details and directions included in your reservation confirmation.

Private tours also have the added advantage of being flexible to your preferences of timing. Generally, we recommend tour start times of 1.30pm, but on a private tour this can be adjusted to fit your needs.

Private tours also allow customization of your tour. Examples:

  • Would you like to spend nearly the entire tour learning about the Sistine Chapel? Great Tours can do that.
